FAQs

RESERVATIONS

Q:
How do I make a reservation at Aalta Sports?
A:
Simply click on the online reservations or group reservations button and the appropriate store location and follow the flow of our reservation form….it is easy and will save you lots of time when you get to the store.

Q:
Can I make reservations over the weekend or late at night?
A:
Of course, simply complete our online reservation form and you are golden. You will receive a confirmation within 24 hours. If you don’t receive a confirmation, please contact us and we will confirm the reservation was received. Please make your reservation at least 24 hours prior to your pick-up date.

Q:
If we get in early can we pick up our equipment the night before?
A:
Yes, as long as the previous renter has returned the equipment and the shop personnel has tuned it. You are welcomed to stop into the store after 2:00 pm and prior to the store closing at no additional cost.

Q:
What if I don’t know his shoe size, height, weight?
A:
It is imperative that you supply our reservation department with all pertinent information including all renters information including shoe sizes, height, weight, age and skier ability. Without complete information our shops cannot set aside the appropriate equipment nor have it already set up for your arrival. On busy weekends and holidays there is always the possibility of selling out of equipment.

Q:
What if I pay for four days of skiing but I decide to snowboard the last two days?
A:
No problem, bring in your equipment and we’ll set you up on a snowboard!

Q:
I want to specifically reserve specific ski or snowboard. Can I do that?
A:
Our reservation department will always make a note when a specific ski has been requested. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that a specific/particular ski or snowboard will be available upon your arrival. However, we do guarantee a ski, snowboard, etc. will be available in the particular package you requested, i.e. sport, gold, performance, platinum, demo, etc.

Q:
Do you carry NEW skis, boots and snowboards? Do you maintain them?
A:
Yes, yes. We have new equipment every year and we tune our skis and snowboards for each rental. We all ski and snowboard and make sure our equipment is tuned, why shouldn’t your equipment be tuned also.

Q:
Is tuned equipment important? Does it make you go too fast?
A:
Yes, tuned equipment is important. You wouldn’t rent a car with bald tires, would you? Untuned skis are like bald tires…you have no control and it is dangerous. Tuned skis offer you control and they do not make you go too fast because when you go faster than you like, just turn. A tuned ski lets you turn easier and smoother.

CANCELLATION POLICY

A 25 % deposit of the total rental will be charged if you do not show up for a reservation or cancel it 48 hrs prior to your expected arrival date.

DISCOUNTS
Q: If I have an American Airlines Vacations voucher are my skis paid for?
A: It depends on which voucher you get. If they give you a free rental voucher, yes your skis are paid by the airline however we still require a credit card deposit for the rental.

Q: Do I get a reservation for renting online?
A: Yes, you save 30%.

Q: Do I get a 35% return customer discount?
A: Absolutely. We love return customers and give our return customers our biggest discount on their next visits to the Vail Valley. We keep your information in our computer system and it backs up to all our stores so you get it whether you visit Vail Village, Lionshead or Beaver Creek.

SKI & SNOWBOARD
Q:
What length board should I rent?
A:
Typically you want the board length to fall somewhere between your sternum and your nose. The longer the board the more stability, the shorter the board the more maneuverability.

Q:
Are strap bindings better than step in bindings?
A:
This is a matter of preference but we feel customers are better off with strap in bindings. Step in bindings can be problematic with real cold weather and they can get jammed up with snow. Strap in bindings give a snowboarder better control over their board and they snowboard better. While you are on the mountain stop by a snowboard park and see if more boarders use strap bindings verses step ins..you maybe lucky to see 2 pairs of step ins.

Q:
Do I need a special type of boot to snowboard?
A:
Snowboard specific boots are required. We strongly recommend you use our rental boots for the highest degree of comfort and performance. Step-in bindings require a special boot for the interface (system) to work properly.

Q:
Do snowboard bindings release?
A:
No, snowboard bindings are not designed nor intended to release.

Q:
What is the difference between freestyle, freeride, and alpine boards?
A:
Freestyle boards are for riders who like to go everywhere. Typically, they are very lightweight, strong and responsive for airs, spinning, and quick on-snow maneuverability. Freeride boards are for riders who like to go anywhere on the mountain with a board that performs in any condition or environment. The freeride boards are smooth turning, stable, strong, and lightweight for airs, carves, and everything in between. Alpine boards are for riders seeking the ultimate turn. They are very stable at speed, with direct power transmission and super edge control, for carving it up in all conditions.

Q:
Where should my weight be when I am on a snowboard?
A:
As a beginner your weight should be either on your front foot or evenly distributed between both feet. As you progress your riding style is up to you. There are no rules, develop any style you want!

Q:
Can I get my own board tuned/serviced at Aalta Sports?
A:
Yes, Aalta has state of the art tuning equipment and all 3 stores have equipment that can stone grind boards and fix every digger you create in our repair shop.

Q:
What do you mean, is my son “goofy or regular”?
A:
This is an old surfing term and applies to the stance on a snowboard. If you prefer your left foot in front of your right foot you are regular. If you prefer your right foot in front you are goofy. If you are not sure try running across a wood floor in your socks, whichever foot you like to have in front when you stop to slide is the foot you should have in front to snowboard. Having this information when you make a reservation will save you enormous time in our shops, allowing us to set the bindings on the board before you arrive.

GENERAL
Q:
Can I pick up my skis at one location and drop them off at another?
A:
Yes, you can. We have a store in each of the main mountain portals, Vail Village, Lionshead and Beaver Creek. We are here to help you during your ski vacation. We appreciate your business and know that superior service you’re your business.

Q:
Will the shop store my boots overnight, what about my shoes?
A:
Yes, the shops will store your boots while you are skiing or snowboarding and you can store your equipment in Vail Village or Lionshead at night for FREE. On Beaver Creek mountain, every lodge has ski and snowboard storage so it is way more convenient to keep your equipment at your lodge or hotel.

Q:
Can I pick up my skis at one location and store them at another?
A:
Yes, any Aalta Sports can store your (Aalta rented) equipment for you based on available space only.

Q:
Do you rent helmets?
A:
Yes, we carry a limited supply in all our shops including sizes for juniors. Remember, a kids rental includes a FREE helmet rental.

Q:
Our lift tickets are for four out of five days. Can we take a day off in the middle?
A:
Renting our equipment is like renting a car. Just like Hertz, if we do not have them in the shop we must charge you for the day of rental. You are welcome to return them on the day you are not skiing to alleviate being charged. Simply come back to the shop when you’re ready and take them back out on the slopes.

Q:
I have a size 15 shoe. Can you accommodate me?
A:
Yes, but don’t risk going to our shop without an advance reservation. We have a very limited quantity of boots in this size.

Q:
If I don’t like my skis the first day, can I come back?
A:
Absolutely! We want you to be completely satisfied with every piece of equipment you rent.

Q:
Do you deliver?
A:
Yes we deliver and pick up on Beaver Creek Mountain which includes, Beaver Creek, Bachelor Gulch and Arrowhead. It is a nice service and if you are looking for this type of service use us because if you ever have an equipment problem, you can simply walk into one of our convenient locations. We will serve you quickly and you can get back on the slopes. Why have to call a deliver service and make an appointment for them to drive over to you…all that time wastes your ski day and lift ticket.

Q:
What happens if I return my skis early?
A:
No problem you always pay when you return. However, in the interest of time, please rent the equipment for the number of days you are certain to use it.

Q:
Do you sell ski equipment in your stores? Do you sell accessories in your stores?
A:
No, why sell skis when you rent the best equipment at a fraction of the price. Most skiers ski 5 -14 days a year and it is better value to rent. Many of our ski packages cost more than $1,100 per set up. With technology changing and skis getting better every year, why buy?
We sell accessories for your comfort and convenience. Our ski rental professionals will help get you set up for your ski vacation so you have the best ski vacation you can have anywhere.

Q:
Where are your locations at the resort?
A:
Our shops are located at excellent locations at each resort.either ski in – ski out or a very short walk to the lift or gondola. When a reservation is made we will send you a confirmation and a detailed map of our exact location.

Q:
What does Aalta Sports do for women?
A:
Aalta features skis designed for women by women. However, manufacturers do not make woman specific skis for beginner woman so we do the next best thing..we move the binding forward one cm on the ski. This puts the ladies balance point where it belongs as ladies carry their weigh further back then men. It helps ladies apply pressure on the tip of the ski and therefore it is easier for them to turn the skis. They love it and so do their husbands.

Q:
Does Aalta Sports offer rental clothing?
A:
Aalta features bibs and jackets for children and adults. Aalta also rents helmets and snowshoes. Please ask our reservation staff for details.
